The film Allora (2019), is set in Sardinian, the main protagonist is an 11 year old boy who is navigating the beginnings of adolescence. Allora deals with concepts of identity and subjectivity in relation to landscape. Drawing on themes from Rings of Saturn by W.H Sebald, Rachel uses the camera to create an intimate portrait of family struggling through the pressures of modern society. In contrast, set in 2025, the film portrays two men coming to terms with a natural disaster which has effected the Island depicted within the film.

Rachel Elizabeth Ashton, born 1995 in London, United Kingdom, works with themes that examine memory in relation to landscape. She discusses her own identity and the increasing intertwined relationship between the body and technology. The characters in Rachel’s films don’t consciously act but are depicted in an environment that is know to them. Therefore creating an intimacy which reveals certain constructs of western society and the impact it then has on our collective memory.
